HOW TO USE THE
LIBRARY
FINDING A
BOOK
• Look up the book you want in either the Author, Title, or
Subject list in the Library's printed indexes.
• Find the call letters next to the title of the book.
• Go to the shelves with the call letters of the book, and find
it. Books are arranged in 12 main categories, and are shelved
alphabetically. Reference books follow the main collection.
Reference books have an r above the call letters.
BROWSING
To browse the collection, keep in mind that books are arranged
in the Main collection and in the Reference collection in 12
main categories:
BIBle DENominations MISsions
BIOgraphy FICtion PEOple
CHRistianity JESus Christ RELigion
CHUrch LIFe, Spiritual THEology
Use the OAK Classification Scheme to find a particular topic
within the classification.
DISPLAYS
New books are displayed first on the mobile rack; they are ready
for use and may be signed out of the library.
BORROWING from the LIBRARY
Books, video tapes, and cassette tapes in the Church Library may
be borrowed ONLY by adult members, regular attendees, and
employees of First Presbyterian Church. Other people who want to
borrow from the Library are asked to first see the Librarian, or
a member of the Pastoral staff.
To borrow a BOOK:
• Remove the card from the pocket in the back of the book.
• Sign and date the card, including the year. ex. 9/27/03.
• Place the card in the book card box.
To borrow a VIDEO TAPE:
• Remove the card from the pocket in the back of the cover.
• Sign and date the card, including the year. ex. 4/19/04.
• Place the card in the book card box.
To borrow an AUDIOCASSETTE TAPE:
• These tapes are NOT yet ready for circulation. If you want to
borrow one, leave the librarian a note telling your name and the
name of the tape.
RETURNING BOOKS and TAPES
Please return all books and tapes promptly so that others may
use them. Place them in the Book Return Box.
CIRCULATION - LOAN PERIODS
BOOKS (non-Reference) -- Three weeks.
REFERENCE BOOKS -- Two weeks.
CASSETTE TAPES (audio) -- Two weeks.
VIDEOCASSETTE TAPES -- One week.
LIBRARY HOURS
The Library is open for use at all times that the building is
open. As often as possible the Library will be staffed by the
Church Librarian or by other library workers at various times
during the week when Church members are likely to want to use
the Library.
DONATIONS
The Library welcomes donations of books and tapes that are
appropriate for a Presbyterian church library collection. Books
and tapes must be doctrinally sound and in good condition (not
torn, ragged, stained, etc.). Books and tapes that are donated
but are not suitable for the collection will be given away.
Please leave books to be donated in or on the Book Return Box. |
